It's time: Mom-ism Monday # 2: Mother's sanity, Flea Market find, book award!

1) Summer is here!

Are you keeping your sanity intact? How about your prayer life? It's a bit challenging with a changing schedule and dynamics in the household. Here's an article I wrote that you'll hopefully enjoy.

2) My daughter visited this past week end!

We went to a huge flea market...

on a very beautiful day...

It was fun to poke around and look at the interesting things as well as the very interesting people! I'll try to share a funny story soon about an older man and a little girl and their conversation overheard at the flea market.

I ended up buying this cute little cabinet (for a very nice price)...

I plan to paint it. But, first I placed it in the space where I think it will stay--upstairs in the hallway outside the main bathroom.

My daughter and I also visited a huge library book fair that we enjoy in a cute little town we like to visit. We poked around, bought a few books and enjoyed a healthy lunch together before heading back home.

3) My youngest son is on a music tour with his band. He's traveling around the East Coast. You can be sure these mother's prayers are certainly with him for safety as he travels.

ALSO, on Friday night the Catholic Press Association awarded Third Place in "Family Life" to me for my book Catholic Mom's Cafe: 5-Minute Retreats for Every Day of the Year! I feel very honored to have received this prestigious award. I pray that the book (published by Our Sunday Visitor) will serve countless heroic Moms, GrandMoms, GodMoms, and more as they work out their salvation (and that of others!) in their domestic churches!

What's new with you? What's happening in your domestic church? Please take a look right below the links you'll see below this to see the instructions for doing your post. Please include the "Mom-ism Mondays" image from the top of this blog post in your post!

IT'S YOUR TURN!

Share your three "Mommy Moments" (photos and/or text) from this past week. Add its URL by clicking the "Add your link" (above). Include the "Mom-ism Mondays" image from the top of this post in your post.
1) Please submit the blog POST URL and not your main blog URL.
2) Include a link back to www.catholicmomscafe.blogspot.com (in your post).
3) I'll use #MomismMonday on social media. You can follow there if you'd like.
4) HAVE FUN and celebrate your MOTHERHOOD all the time (especially on Mondays)!

Exciting news to share soon!

On the set of Catholic Mom's Cafe at EWTN

I have some exciting news to share soon regarding Catholic Mom's Cafe--the book and the TV series!

Pope Francis to families...

"The gratuity of that dad or that mum who know how to spend time with their children. We need more of this gratuity in families, parishes and in society.”~Pope Francis

How are we communicating to our children?

Today's reflection from Catholic Mom's Cafe: 5-Minute Retreats for Every Day of the Year (page 131)

PONDER: "Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak. We are full of words but empty of actions, and therefore are cursed by the Lord, since he himself cursed the fig tree when he found no fruit but only leaves. It is useless for a man to flaunt his knowledge of the law if he undermines its teaching by his actions."~ Saint Anthony of Padua

OFFER: Today is the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua. His words are sobering. Consider what your children see in all that you do today. Do your actions reinforce or undermine the Faith that you are teaching them?

PRAY: Lord Jesus, I want to bear fruit with your grace. May all that I do give witness to you. Act of Love, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be.

SAVOR: I want my actions to speak of love.

Celebrate your "Mom-isms!"

UPDATED POST!

1) Loving nature around us!

I was absolutely thrilled that Mr. and Mrs. Wren decided to build a nest in the empty bird house I hung outside my kitchen window. My kids know how much I love the birds and my oldest daughter Chaldea gave me the bird house as a gift. I was hoping that perhaps someday some sweet bird would be interested in "renting" it. It stayed vacant for a while until one day I excitedly observed a cute little bird with a small twig in its mouth sitting on the railing of my deck.
The first twig was added and then each day in the mornings and then again in the evenings, the wrens would busily build their nest--one twig at a time.
I plan to write another post sometime with additional photos and a little more information about how the birds go about their nest building for those who are interested.

2) Celebrating our wedding anniversary!

My husband and I celebrated a wedding anniversary recently. We enjoyed the day together which included wine tasting at a Connecticut winery. It was enjoyable and we ended up buying two very nice dessert wines to bring home and enjoy on other occasions.

We ended our day with a nice dinner in one of our favorite restaurants and even splurged for dessert which we shared. It was fresh coconut cake and passion fruit and mango sorbet--yum!

3) Helping other moms to keep prayer in their summer...

Here's my recent article in the Catholic World Report with tips about family summer prayer. I hope that you enjoy it!

This post was supposed to be about my recent "Mom-isms." And, though it doesn't necessarily appear to be that way, please keep in mind that the bird house was a gift from my daughter, and you need a marriage (hence the mention of wedding anniversary) before you can have kids (or at least that is the proper order), right?!

I hope you'll share some highlights (Mom-isms) from your past week or from any time. And then weekly, you can share and celebrate your motherhood here!

PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THESE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW--VERY SIMPLE, BUT PLEASE REMEMBER TO LINK BACK TO THIS BLOG IN YOUR BLOG POST.

Also, feel free to right-click the "Mom-ism Mondays" image at the top of this post and save it to your pictures on your computer or device to be used in each of your "Mom-ism" posts! :)

I look forward to reading your post!
